Saturday, September 27th, 2003

Friday, September 26th, 2003
From Dark Horizons comes yet another character poster for The Last Samurai and from Empire Movies comes poor quality scans for Neil Young's Greendale, the documentary Go Further, and a second poster for 21 Grams.

Thursday, September 25th, 2003
From BET comes a slightly truncated poster for Love Don't Cost a Thing and thanks to Igor we have a much better quality copy of yesterday's Looney Tunes: Back in Action poster as well as what appears to be another banner for the film, featuring Timothy Dalton.

Wednesday, September 24th, 2003
From Joblo.com we have the latest poster for The Cat in the Hat starring Mike Myers. A great poster except for that horribly creepy cat in a hat! That "thing" looks like it should be out of a horror film, not a Dr. Seuss classic. It would surely give me nightmares if I were younger. To go along with yesterday's new character posters for The Last Samurai, CHUD has a third smaller one featuring Koyuki. Also, from Hollywood Dreams Online are two very low quality scans of the latest posters for Mystic River and Looney Tunes: Back in Action. Interestingly enough, the Looney Tunes poster is very similar to an unofficial one that leaked out last month. The only noticeable difference: Jenna Elfman's hair.

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2003
From comingsoon.net and LatinoReview come two great looking character posters for Edward Zwick's The Last Samurai starring Tom Cruise and Ken Watanabe. Only a star of Tom Cruise's magnitude would get his name at the top of someone else's character poster. Come on, Ken Watanabe may not be a big American star, but his name should not be a footnote on the poster featuring his image. It's almost surprising they don't have Tom Cruise peering over his shoulder.

A couple new additions for the site. From Mike Markus comes the French poster for Gus Van Sant's Elephant, winner of the Palme D'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and from Chris we have a small poster for Eulogy starring Debra Winger, Ray Romano, Hank Azaria, and Rip Torn.

Friday, September 19th, 2003
Thanks to Mike Markus for passing along an image of the poster for My Life Without Me starring Sarah Polley.

Thursday, September 18th, 2003
From UIP Netherlands comes a second poster for Intolerable Cruelty starring George Clooney and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Still not a great poster, but this one does have a cool barbed wire heart on it.

Wednesday, September 17th, 2003
From Kyle comes the one sheet for Honey starring Jessica Alba, Mekhi Phifer, and Lil' Romeo. Also new to the site is the poster for Prey for Rock & Roll starring Gina Gershon. Finally, from FilmForce comes the second poster for Duplex and from Empire Movies the poster of Dorm Daze

The other day in a video store I noticed the DVD cover for the 1983 Meryl Streep film Silkwood and was rather annoyed at the cover. What kind of useless cover is that? Aside from knowing who stars in it, all the cover really does is tell us about Streep's hairstyle in the film. I'd figure it was some romantic love triangle based on that cover. The original poster isn't perfect (we could've done without the three stars standing in the bottom left corner) but it does tell us a lot about the film with the single image of Streep looking nervously into her rear view mirror.

Anyway, I'd like to hear from you regarding similar poster designs that were totally trashed once they made it to video / DVD. A couple others that come to mind: Excalibur and Good Will Hunting. Submit your suggestions to the IMP.

Saturday, September 13th, 2003
From FilmForce comes the poster for The Singing Detective starring Robert Downey, Jr., Robin Wright Penn, Katie Holmes, Adrien Brody, and Mel Gibson. And from Movie Poster Warehouse we finally get a good quality image of the second poster for The Last Samurai starring Tom Cruise.

Then Kyle sends us a copy of the final one sheet for Love Actually. From Joblo.com comes the final one sheet for Elf. And finally, from Hollywood Dreams Online, comes a look at the latest poster for Looney Toons: Back in Action.

From Hollywood Dreams Online comes a small poster image of the new Halle Berry film Gothika. UPDATE: We've just received high quality images of Gothika and The Polar Express. [Thanks to BET.com,comingsoon.net , and Mike Markus]

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2003
Thanks to Kyle for providing us with a small shot of the poster for Jane Campion's latest, In the Cut, starring Meg Ryan, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Mark Ruffalo. It's hard to get the full impression from this small image, but at first glance the image of the man adjusting his rear-view mirror looks an awful lot like he's holding a knife instead.

Monday, September 1st, 2003
From Hollywood Dreams Online comes a low quality image of the teaser poster for The Polar Express, the latest teaming of Robert Zemeckis and Tom Hanks.

Friday, August 29th, 2003
Thanks to Kyle for passing along an image for the final one sheet for Disney's Haunted Mansion starring Eddie Murphy. Rather surprising that this would be the final poster, considering Murphy's face is nowhere to be seen.

Thursday, August 28th, 2003
First of all, from ioncinema.com comes two small posters: one for Sylvia starring Gwyneth Paltrow and another for 21 Grams starring Naomi Watts, Sean Penn, and Benicio Del Toro. Then we have the poster for The Station Agent and artwork for the documentary The Backyard. [thanks to Mike Markus for providing images for these last two posters]

Wednesday, August 27th, 2003
From MovieMarket we have a number of small images for additional posters of The Order and Timeline.
From Poster Image Archive comes the poster for Radio, starring Ed Harris and Cuba Gooding, Jr. and from FilmForce we have the poster for John Sayles' latest movie: Casa de los Babys. And though it has been kicking around for a little bit, here's the poster for the Ridley Scott's director's cut of Alien.

Monday, August 25th, 2003
From Ain't it Cool News comes the second one sheet for the Sofia Coppola film Lost in Translation starring Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson. Meanwhile, from Empire Movies comes poster for Pieces of April starring Katie Holmes, Patricia Clarkson, and Oliver Platt.

Saturday, August 23rd, 2003
From Joblo.com comes the one sheet for Wonderland, starring Val Kilner.

Thursday, August 21st, 2003
From FilmForce comes the one sheet for Shattered Glass starring teen Anakin, Hayden Christensen.

Wednesday, August 20th, 2003
From the official website comes 5 great new character posters for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. The IMP especially likes the one of Gollum... there is a certain family resemblance. All these posters are now available for sale at MovieGoods.

Monday, August 18th, 2003
From LatinoReview comes a great teaser poster for Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill.

Saturday, August 16th, 2003
From UIP Netherlands comes the second poster for School of Rock starring Jack Black. Meanwhile, we have a small image for the Lost in Translation poster, directed by Sofia Coppola and starring Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Anna Faris, and Giovanni Ribisi. Finally, from Joblo.com comes a couple of teaser posters for Love Actually. Pretty basic, but I like the "coming soon actually" line.

Friday, August 15th, 2003
From Greenlight Designs comes the US one sheet for Don't Tempt Me starring Victoria Abril and Penelope Cruz.

Wednesday, August 13th, 2003
Sure, the film has been out for a while, but here are some great French character posters for Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. And thanks to Kyle for providing the poster image for the IMAX film Young Black Stallion, directed by Simon Wincer. A nice looking poster, but the tagline: "the greatest story of friendship ever told" sounds like a bit much.

Tuesday, August 12th, 2003
From comingsoon.net comes the teaser poster for Ron Howard's next film, The Missing starring Tommy Lee Jones and Cate Blanchett. A nice job of placing the title amongst the trees, but otherwise, this poster's just a little too obscure. (For instance, you'd never know it was set in 19th century Mexico.) Then we have the second teaser for Disney's Brother Bear featuring some incredibly geeky moose. [thanks to Jason, Mike Markus, and Kyle for the images]

Friday, August 8th, 2003
First of all, we have the imaginative poster for Dummy, starring Adrien Brody and Milla Jovovich. Then there is the one sheet for Young Adam starring Ewan McGregor. Finally, we have the poster for It's All About Love from the Berlin Film Festival. [many thanks to Mike Markus for the images]

Thursday, August 7th, 2003
Two new teaser posters today. First we have a beautiful one sheet for Disney's Brother Bear. Next, we have the latest film from the Farrelly brothers, Stuck on You, starring Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear. [thanks to Kyle Clayton and Mike Markus for the heads up]

Tuesday, August 5th, 2003
From Empire Movies comes the final poster for S.W.A.T. Nothing too new here. A few too many movies of late have created their final poster by simply squishing all the character posters together and the results ain't all that good. Then, from LatinoReview we have the one sheet for The Human Stain starring Anthony Hopkins and Nicole Kidman. With Nicole Kidman showing so much cleavage, you can almost imagine a humorous take on the poster with Anthony Hopkin's eyes straying downwards a little. A nice looking poster, regardless. [thanks to Mike Markus for the heads up]

Saturday, August 2nd, 2003
Kyle has sent us word of two new posters. First is a great poster for the new film Cold Creek Manor starring Dennis Quaid, Sharon Stone, Stephen Dorff, Juliette Lewis, and Christopher Plummer. Great to see a poster with so much detail and subtlety. Then there is the rather funny poster for Calendar Girls, starring Helen Mirren and Julie Waters in what looks like a kind of female take on The Full Monty.
