Jim Bruno Feb 22 05:51:18pm How would anyone walking by this poster, or DVD cover know that this was the artist responsible for the posters for cinema masterpieces like Star Wars, Harry Potter, E.T., Indiana Jones, Back to the Future and more??? The foreground should have been a bunch of his characters from his most famous works and let the page curl reveal Drew behind it at least, he owns all his art so clearance would have been easy. Why wasn't the DREW in the title Drew's famous signature!? This does nothing for me and I think it's an embarrasment for Drew's son, who clearly did not catch all the apples that were falling from his father's tree.
Musica Eternal Feb 16 12:13:59am Sounds like a lot of bitter jealousy from art directors who will remain unknown and will die unknown, leaving no mark and creating nothing memorable.
K-art Feb 15 03:04:56pm Sorry, but Drew was Amsel-light. He could trace really well and had a flare with the white prismacolor, but as has been said, he's hardly more important than Alvin or Peak.
Carnage Asada Feb 15 01:45:15pm So, for those who are harping out, claiming that this should have been an illustration, who would you have illustrate it? Drew is retired, so anyone who would illustrate it would have to mimic his style and would simply not be the same as a real Drew poster and would do it no real justice. Why can't you dolts recognize this?
bev Feb 14 09:33:59pm cool poster done by the son of Drew Struzan. nice for a fan of the art that is the movie poster to see this happen.
Trist Feb 14 08:26:51pm This is dreadful. Lousy, tasteless photoshop job. It could use a proofread, too - "A personal look at the the most important etc". Sloppy!
Nelly Feb 14 05:20:04pm I think they made a huge mistake with the copy, because the people who know who Struzan is also know there are better and far more important illustrators than Drew. Rockwell takes my vote
BitterLemon® Feb 14 05:09:04pm The thing he seems to be best at is self promotion. Well said SAY WHAT!
Joey Feb 14 03:36:37pm I like Drew Struzan's work, but to claim he is the most important illustrator in the past 100 years is a gigantic overstatement. He is no more important than John Alvin was in regards to entertainment advertising. As far as illustration in general, he should be ashamed to put himself in the same league as Lyendecker, Rockwell, Cornwell, Parish, Pyle, Flagg and Wyeths. As an artist you should never put yourself ahead of your masters. Do you think Vermeer said he was more important than Rembrandt. Jesus this claim makes me irate. I'm an illustrator who had a great teacher, and never in 1,000 years would i consider my self more important than them. Hew drew go tell Mucha and Lautrec to suck it while your at it. Give me a break, the chutzpah!
Nick Feb 14 03:27:12pm "Drew, for your illustrious career and numerous contributions to the history of key art, we award you with...MORE GOTHAM"
SAY WHAT? Feb 14 03:17:39pm JOHN ALVIN, RICHARD AMSEL, BOB PEAK, CHARLIE WHITE III, STEVE CHORNEY, BIRNEY LETTICK, MIKE McGINTY,KUNIO HAGIO...ALL LIVED AND WORKED AT THE SAME TIME. LOOK THEM UP...DREW WAS AWESOME BUT NOT THE MOST IMPORTANT
Jared Feb 14 02:55:29pm For one of the greatest movie poster illustrators of our time, this is a pretty boring design.
c-ray Feb 14 02:12:54pm I was hopin for a montage
Shannon Feb 14 02:03:49pm What's behind the poster?
There, fixed. Feb 14 01:55:54pm "the most important illustrator (besides Norman Rockwell and like 5 or 6 other guys) of the last 100 years"
