These icons used to be small and in the corner of posters ( You can use your phone to recognize the design and get info on the movie).
I think its a bit odd that its the entire poster design with little other info, it meant to entice people who don't recognize the 9 logo in the date to use their mobiles to get more info on what the poster is about. Its a new spin on the teaser poster but I think the movie has some amazing imagery and could sell itself.

this is actually a bar code and if you have a phone that will let u scan bar codes you can scan it and it will take you to a special site where Tim Burton will talk and show the preview of the movie

Its an Upcode you can use your mobile phone to visit a exclusive page by taking a photo of the code with a special software like Upcode(search). Nice to see more posters using this new codes the Miss March poster also have one. :)

The item on the poster is actually a barcode that you are supposed to scan with your cell phone. When you scan it, it's supposed to give you exclusive content such as ringtones and clips. The standee for Notorious had a similar barcode that if scanned gave you a ringtone.
