the white bold text of the title is there for balance. in these the name of the actor above and the movie pulls the eye down through the poster, the name is only reinforcing incase it is not immediately recognizable, as in this case its a different type treatment with a lot going on. also if you follow the hierarchy it reads MATT DAMON then following our preconception of top to bottom left to right the same weight and treatment is picked up on with the movie title, it therefore locks in the actors name.

Why do they insult our intelligence by having the title of the film on the poster twice. It would have been a much better poster if the white lettering of 'The Departed' was gone on these posters.
