Creepiest Poster Nominees of 2005

For those posters that you would like to put up on your wall if only you were a little braver.

The Devil's Rejects
None of the other poster designs for this film can quite match the creepiness of this UK quad. Is this poor fellow trying to crawl towards us or is he being dragged off to some horrible fate? Either way it is just plain nasty. (Though not as nasty as the bloodier version that was banned in the UK.)
House of Wax
Hard to say just what makes this one so creepy. Is it the melting wax? Is it the apparent absence of any eyes in those darkened sockets? Whatever the reason, this poster manages to be creepy and somewhat beautiful at the same time. It also has a tag line that sums up the movie well: Prey. Slay. Display.
The Jacket
I'm sure everyone wants to see what their morgue photograph would look like and Adrien Brody got the chance with this poster. Adding to the creepy image is the lovely tagline: I was 27 years old the first time I died.
Saw II
The MPAA banned the original version of this poster, but we find the "toned down" version even nastier. We may not see the bloody stubs but we get a clearer picture of the dirty fingers with those revolting nails. A very nasty image and also a rather humorous way of representing the sequel.
Wolf Creek
Piecing together distorted faces out a series of images is always a little creepy and this one is especially so with the bloodstains and the damaged quality of old photographs.

Because it was such a creepy year for movie posters, we thought we would mention a few runners-up that did not quite make the top five:
Alone in the Dark, Boogeyman, Land of the Dead, Undead, and Venom
.

and the winner is...
